Research Focus

I am developing a portable desalination device inspired by the marine iguana’s salt gland, which naturally converts seawater into fresh water. The device is designed for individual-scale use in remote environments and emergency maritime situations. My approach integrates both computational and experimental methods to design, fabricate, and optimize the system. The core technology is based on electrodialysis, enhanced by a finely tuned hydrogel membrane component to improve ion separation efficiency and overall performance.

Biography

Anh Duc Van is a Global NYU Ph.D. Fellow in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He holds both a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam. His research interests include developing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solvers and fabricating nano- and microfluidic devices for healthcare applications. Currently, his work focuses on desalination technologies, particularly systems based on ion concentration polarization.
